How to get your Mom to go and stay Natural

Inspirational quote:

Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.
~ Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Step 1: LOVE and EMBRACE Your Natural Hair

I see this step as the most important one. You may not even recognize it but you Mom is looking at you, being inspired and encouraged by you. The saying is that actions speak louder than words. You don’t have to drum in her mind all the benefits of being natural and the hazards of using chemicals in her hair. By loving your natural hair she is warmed to the thought of leaving the relaxed life behind to venture out into the natural world.

Step 2: Be Patient with Her

Recognize that she isn’t as informed as you are. She doesn’t know about terms such as “sealing”, “essential and carrier oils”, “co-washing” and the “LOC Method”. Take your time an introduce those terms to her and explain the benefits of doing the things you do to your hair.

Step 3: Don’t Leave her Empty Handed

Equip Her with a Start-up Kit

This should include a spray bottle, an applicator bottle, a wide tooth comb, a satin cap/pillowcase. Help her choose a good shampoo and conditioner, leave in conditioner, and oil’s.

Step 4: Introduce her to YouTube, Facebook, and Natural Hair Blogs

It is important for her to see the natural hair journey of others. To see that sometimes its not going to be a bed of roses, but when the thorns appear that other’s got through it and so can she. These sights also help her to learn the tricks and trades of the game.

Step 5: Put the Fear of God in Her

If all else fails, why not show her a bunch of pictures of the damages chemicals does to your body. The most gruesome ones you can find and scare her into chopping off those relaxed ends and saying good riddance to the straightener! I kid i kid lol..or am I? 😀
